During the Second World War, Robbins from Sydney, was part of the crew of the US Navy ship City of Fort Worth. He was picked up by the Manunda after being swept into the Pacific Ocean from his own ship during a storm off the east coast of Australia. Another crew member, also swept overboard, was never found.
